Considering Dental Implants?
Dental implants are improving the quality of life for many patients. Loss of teeth can lead to functional and cosmetic deficiencies and psychological distress. Dental implants can provide a solid and long-lasting solution to restore your personal confidence and your ability to eat what you desire. Their presence also helps to preserve your jawbone which in turn supports the soft tissue contours of your face.
A full complement of teeth is 8 incisors, 4 canines, 8 premolars and 12 molars divided equally between the upper and lower jaws and totaling 32 teeth. Three molars occupy the back of your left and right sides, the last one of which is termed the third molar or wisdom tooth. This is usually the last tooth to erupt.
Over the years, human jaw bones have become smaller and the lack of space can prevent the wisdom tooth from erupting, rendering it impacted. Other causes that prevent eruption may be bad position, tumors, hormonal abnormalities and congenital diseases. Impacted teeth are classified by the depth of their impaction: soft tissue, partial and complete impacted, as well as their position: vertical, leaning forward or backward or lying horizontal.
