Restorative Dentistry and Dental Fillings
At Rubenstein Dental Group fillings are placed for a variety of reasons including to treat cavities (dental caries), repair cracked or broken teeth as well as teeth that have been worn down from misuse (such as from nail-biting or tooth grinding). Restorative dentistry, including dental filings, could be what you need.
Do I Need to Have a Cavity Filled if it Doesn’t Hurt?
Dr. Rubenstein or Dr. Bonaventura will gently use a local anesthetic to numb the area around the tooth to be filled. Next using a variety of instruments depending on its location and extent, the cavity/fracture will be removed.
Once removed, the dentists will prepare the space for the filling by ensuring all bacteria and debris has been removed. After the filling is placed our doctors will shape the filling to ensure the proper anatomy, bite and contacts with the adjacent teeth before polishing the final restoration.
What Materials are Used for Restoring Teeth?
Today, several dental filling materials are available including tooth-colored composite resin, porcelain, silver amalgam or gold. The location and extent of the decay, break or fracture along with our dentist’s recommendations will assist in determining the type of filling best for you.
